Supported by Google, Year One Labs is running a 1-day Google Hackathon on January 22nd, 2011. The event is being held at the RPM Mtl shared space.

The goal is to have developers building applications atop the Google App Engine platform. Sean Lynch, product manager for Google App Engine will be in attendance to help out. There’s an interview with Sean on NextMontreal that explains a bit more about App Engine.

Tentative Schedule

• 8am: Introductions and a presentation from the Google team
• 9am-5pm: Coding (in teams of two), with breakfast and lunch
• 5pm-7pm: Presentations with judging of the resulting apps
• 7pm-11pm: Party at RPM for the participants (and maybe some others)

Additional Details

• The goal is to be using App Engine, but you can also look at using Google’s “app stack” (i.e. maps, bigtable, etc.)
• If you want a quick primer on App Engine, check out the Google code docs for Python or Java atop App Engine.
• Other than what’s in Google’s Terms of Service, attendees own their own code.
• Each team can be one or two coders working on a project. We expect this to be a popular event, so we are limiting the size of teams to ensure that as many teams as possible can participate.
• There’s no cost to attend, but all attendees are expected to show up and build something by the end of the day. It’s OK if you have a project already underway, but we’ll give priority to those who want to build and launch something at the event.
• Attendance will happen on a first-come, first-served basis through an Eventbrite registration.
